Compress a PDF without uploading it.

Reduce PDF size directly on your device. The recommended Smart mode preserves selectable/searchable text, links and vector content instead of turning every page into an image.

Private by design

Your PDF stays on your device. No document upload is required.

Smart by default

Preserve searchable text and vector content first, with stronger image-based modes when you need them.

Never make it worse

If Smart mode cannot reduce the file, PDFSnacker keeps the original bytes instead of returning a larger copy.

Free browser-based PDF compressor

PDFSnacker offers two kinds of compression. Smart mode rewrites the PDF structure without flattening pages, so text remains selectable/searchable and vector graphics stay vector. It is the recommended choice for reports, invoices, CVs, contracts and other document PDFs.

When you need a much smaller file

Photo and Maximum modes are designed for scanned or image-heavy PDFs. They rasterize pages and recompress the resulting images, which can shrink files much more aggressively but can remove selectable/searchable text. PDFSnacker labels those modes clearly before you use them.

Why results vary

A PDF that is already efficiently compressed may not get smaller without changing its content. In Smart mode, PDFSnacker compares the result with the original and keeps the smaller version automatically.

Questions people ask

How does the PDF get smaller without being uploaded?

Smart mode cleans the file structure and removes duplicate objects without touching the pictures, so quality stays identical. Photo and Maximum mode also re-encode the images at a lower quality, which is where the big savings come from on scanned or photo-heavy files.

Why did my PDF barely shrink?

A PDF that is mostly text or vector drawings is already small; there is little to remove. The biggest reductions come from files full of photos or scans. If a stronger mode would not make the file smaller, the tool keeps the better result instead of handing you a worse one.

Will the text still be selectable after compressing?

Yes. Only images are re-encoded. Text, fonts, links and bookmarks are kept as they were.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole tool runs inside your browser. Your file is read from your device, processed there and never sent to a server, which is also why it works with the network switched off once the page has loaded.

Is it free?

Yes. Every tool on PDFSnacker is free to use, with no account, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
